The Foundry Players, in the Dupont Circle area since 1946, is a volunteer-based and community-supported amateur theater. We are located a few blocks from the Dupont Circle metro at the corner of 16th and P Streets, NW, in Washington, DC.
Converted in the 1920's, the Foundry stage was used by members of the Foundry congregation to mount plays and other staged events until the beginning of World War II. After the war, the current Foundry Players began as a creative outlet for the young men and women of the community. The first production was an evening of one-act plays in February of 1946. In June of that year, our first full-length show, Seven Sisters, was staged. And so it began - 50 years of quality community theater.
Over the years, The Players' productions have ranged from the classics to present-day dramas, from one-acts to musicals, and from proscenium to arena stagings. In fact, The Players were the first Washington-area community theater group to stage a show "in the round." The Players also have a long-standing tradition of keeping the "community" in community theater, with some of our past productions benefiting area organizations, including The Foundry United Methodist Church, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Northern Virginia AIDS Ministries (NOVAM), and the Community Improvement Volunteer Involvement Corps (CIVIC).
We present at least three productions each season, with occasional "flings", such as play-reading series and evenings of one-act plays.
The Foundry Players are a self-supporting, non-profit organization. Our only income comes from ticket sales, membership dues, and individual contributions. We receive no grants, no endowments, and no funding from The Foundry United Methodist Church, which generously donates its Fellowship Hall for our use. Our membership is made up of theater lovers from across the D.C. metropolitan area and our volunteer base and supporters are a constantly changing and vibrantly growing group.
We thank the community and our supporters for making our many years of success possible.
